Church bells ring for forgotten 1825 Flood disaster in Friesland
#churchbell This Sunday evening, we will ring the church bell together with over 200 other churches in #Friesland for the Forgotten Frisian #Flood Disaster of 1825. Hundreds of people died in this storm surge. Two-thirds of Friesland was under water at the time.
We ring the bell of our #Mauritius Church in Jirnsum for 18 minutes and 25 seconds, a symbolic reference to the disastrous year 1825.
More information: on the website of Friesland Flood Disaster 1825 .
There is also a lot of attention for this online and on TV this weekend, for example watch the film FryslânDOK: Stormvloed 1825 – een vergeten disaster.
* Saturday February 1st 3:30 PM NPO2
+ Sunday 2 February 1.20 pm NPO2, 5.00 pm Omrop Fryslân (repeat every hour)
The documentary will then be available to watch again on the Omrop Fryslân website and 1825.frl.
The #sound of the #church bells plays an important role in the documentary, because the bells warned people about the #water.
