FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sleep well when the church bell rings at night?

We turn off our church bell from 1488 in the evening when we have guests. So you are not bothered by the noise. We sometimes get requests from church fans to have the church bell ring during the nights: that is also possible.

Is it possible to book 1 night in the Mauritius Church?

Yes, we have a special Last Minute option for this: 5 days before you want to check in and stay with us - if available - it is possible to book a room for 1 night.

Why can't I book a room for 1 night for two or five months from now?

The honest answer: bookings for 1 night do not provide us with enough money to maintain the church. Moreover, Friesland is beautiful enough to stay for 7 days. We still want to help people if possible, hence the special Last Minute option. This option is especially popular with business travelers or people who spontaneously go out.

Can we bring our pet?

We love pets ourselves, but unfortunately our accommodation is not suitable for animals, so: no. Close to our church is the dog shelter Ald Skou , a 10-minute walk from our church.

Do you have a washing machine?

Yes, guests staying at least a few nights can use our washing machine and dryer free of charge.

Do the room studios have heating?

Yes, all rooms have electric heating and there is gas heating that can be controlled with the thermostat.

Can I see the entire church from the inside?

Guests who stay with us for a long time usually get a tour from me. This depends on time and availability, and usually happens spontaneously.

Is there anything useful I should bring with me?

Good question. Maybe some cash if you want to buy something tasty or a souvenir at stalls or farms along the road; there is not always an ATM. In case of a pin malfunction, cash is also handy of course.

Maybe nice (thick) socks or slippers/flip-flops. In our own church house we don't wear shoes ourselves, just like in Asia and Eastern Europe (keeps things nice and clean). If you want to visit our church house, we ask you to take off your shoes.

In the morning it is nice to feel the cool dewdrops on the grass of our church garden with your feet. Coffee or breakfast in the garden and a sun is wonderful with the slippers on!

Do you have a bicycle shed?

Guests can park their e-bikes or bicycles in our church tower. There are also two types of bicycle pumps.

Can I charge my electric car in Jirnsum (at night)?

Jirnsum / Irnsum offers three charging station options in the village. You can check the exact locations via the ANWB website and app . Two charging station options are within walking distance of the Mauritius Church, say our guests who have used them.

The new cabinet is going to increase VAT for hotels and B&Bs to 21% from 2026. Will you do the same?

Unfortunately yes; we have to pay the higher VAT to the tax authorities. Companies and entrepreneurs can get a business invoice/bill from us, with which they can reclaim the VAT from the government.

Isn't maintaining a church a lot of work?

Yes! :-)))

If you have any special requests or other questions, you can always contact us by email (info@mauritiuskerk.nl) or telephone/WhatsApp (+31) 06 1310 8818.
