FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sleep well when the church clock chimes at night?
Our church clock from 1488 is turned off in the evenings when we have guests. So you won't be disturbed by the sound. We sometimes receive requests from church enthusiasts to let the church clock chime during the night, which is also possible.
Do you have a washing machine?
Yes, indeed. Guests staying for a few nights can use our washing machine and dryer free of charge.
Can we stay in your church for just one night?
Yes, that's possible.
Do you have a bike shed?
Guests can store their e-bikes or bicycles in our church tower. There are also two types of bike pumps available.
Can I charge my electric car in Jirnsum (at night)?
Jirnsum/Irnsum offers three charging station options in the village. You can check the exact locations, for example, via the ANWB website and app. Two charging stations are within walking distance of the Mauritiuskerk, according to our guests who have used them.
Can we see the inside of the entire church?
Guests staying with us for a longer period usually receive a guided tour. This depends on time and availability and usually happens spontaneously.
May we bring our pet?
We love pets, but unfortunately, our accommodation is not suitable for animals, so the answer is no. There is a dog daycare called Hondenopvang Ald Skou nearby, about a 10-minute walk from our church.
Is there anything I should bring?
Good question. Maybe some cash money if you want to buy treats or souvenirs from roadside stands or farms; not everywhere has an ATM. Cash is also handy in case of a PIN machine malfunction.
Perhaps some nice (thick) socks or slippers/flip-flops. In our church residence, we don't wear shoes, just like in Asia and Eastern Europe (it keeps things nice and clean). If you want to visit our church residence, we'll ask you to remove your shoes. In the morning, it's lovely to feel the cool dew drops on the grass in our church garden with your feet. Enjoying coffee or breakfast in the garden with a bit of sunshine while wearing slippers is delightful!

What time can I check in and out?
Check-in at our church is from 3:00 p.m., and check-out is at 11:00 a.m.
Do you also rent bikes?
We don't do that ourselves. Bike Shop Joop Zandbergen in the nearby boat village of Grou does rent out bikes; he can deliver (and pick up) the bikes and e-bikes to our church for a small extra fee if you rent from him.
Why don't you serve breakfast as standard in your B&B?
We like to give guests the choice: with or without breakfast. Our studios each have a fully equipped kitchen for those who want to prepare something themselves. It is possible to order breakfast only for the first morning or on the day of departure - or every morning. Whatever you prefer. We sometimes jokingly say that we are actually a BwB (Bed without Breakfast) :-) On most booking websites and platforms, you can now see the option for hotels and guesthouses offering rooms with and without breakfast.
The new cabinet has increased the VAT on hotels and B&Bs to 21% as of January 1, 2026. Are you doing the same?
Unfortunately, yes; we have to pay the higher VAT to the tax authorities. Businesses and entrepreneurs can receive a business invoice/bill from us, allowing them to reclaim the VAT from the government.
Isn't maintaining a church a lot of work?
Yes! :-)))
