#SustainableThursday: 100% blue tie-dye cotton

Am I seeing this correctly? Yes, our breakfast tablecloth comes from... China! It's handmade by a sustainable designer from the southern province of Yunnan, where our daughter was born.

The blue tablecloth is 100% tie-dye cotton, handmade, and dyed with the blue of the local indigo plant. We visited the tie-dye studio (photo) last May.

In this Yunnan studio in Dali, Chinese social entrepreneur and designer Xiao Bai leads a team that creates tie-dye clothing (dresses, pants, t-shirts) and rugs. After a workshop on natural clothing dyeing, we decided to bring this centuries-old tradition to Jirnsum. We hope to welcome Xiao Bai as a guest at our Mauritius Church in the coming years.
