Mauritius Church popular with Thialf skating fans

FRIESLAND - Our Mauritiuskerk Airbnb in Jirnsum is increasingly becoming a skating fan church! Or the past three nights skating enthusiasts stayed with us again.

They enjoyed the European All-Round Championships and the European Sprint Championships in the Thialf ice stadium in Heerenveen, only 19 km from our B&B in Jirnsum.

Jirnsum was the home of popular ice skating champion Atje Keulen-Deelstra (her farm is near our church). The ice skating rink in the middle of the village is named after her. The village has been working on a monument or statue to remember and honor her for some time now.
